Publishing Manager (International Projects)


Job Descriptions:
  • To oversee and organizes the whole publishing process to ensure efficient and effectiveness of content team by day to day operation in Publishing Department;
  • To participates in reader and industry research, keeping abreast and ahead of anticipated market needs and changes. Works with publishing team to adjust strategy of publications accordingly;
  • To plan Publication schedule on yearly basis for Academic and Children section;
  • To ensure all projects are accomplished as planned in Publication Schedule;
  • To carry out Publishing Operational Meeting and present Publishing Operational Meeting Report to Managing Director / General Manager;
  • To monitor weekly publishing progress;
  • To issue writing offer letters to writers;
  • To determine / verify mode and amount of writing fees (by project) for Managing Director / General Manager’s approval;
  • To verify payment requisitions and payment summary for Managing Director’s approval;
  • To verify summary of royalties / lump sum payment for Managing Director’s approval;
  • To supervise Managing Editor on setting editorial deadlines;
  • To supervise Production Manager and Managing Editor on the mode of book packaging;
  • To supervise Production Manager on the costing and pricing of publications;
  • To coordinate with marketing department on determination of book price;
  • To supervise the preparation of promotional letters, brochures, leaflets, calendars, posters, etc;
  • To review Publishing Agreement from time to time, whenever deemed necessary;
  • To approve book cover mechanical and colour proof;
  • To approve purchases and printing charges;
  • To monitor the sufficiency of manpower in Publishing Department;
  • To monitor the sufficiency of equipment needed in Publishing Department;
  • To interview applicants for all positions in Publishing Department;
  • To verify writer’s royalties rate before submitting to Finance Department;
  • To liaise with government bodies / agencies and organizations in order to secure the most up to date data, information, photograph, etc;
  • To liaise with the legal officer on Publishing Agreement, Copyright matters including applications for approval on the usage of materials from the other companies and vice versa;
  • To organize meeting between the Publishing and Marketing Department on product research and development, product knowledge, as well as feedback on released titles;
  • To liaise with Multimedia Unit on the production of CDROM/CD/DVD;
  • To handle customer enquiry and solving customer complaints pertaining to publishing matters;
  • To plan and organize training for Publishing staff;
  • To provide assistance to the subsidiary companies in publishing matters.
Job Requirements:
  • Candidate must possess at least a Degree in any field;
  • At least 3 to 5 years of working experience in Publishing;
  • Good working attitude with high motivation, responsible, possess good interpersonal skills and pleasant personality;
  • Having goal-oriented, self-motivated and result-driven;
  • Good command in Mandarin, English and Malay in both written and oral;
  • Candidates may need to travel (if necessary).
